This is an abstract concept of Chinese medicine. In a broad sense, it refers to vitality which governs all life activities, or the outer manifestation of all the vital energy, one of the major criteria for diagnosis. In a narrow sense, it refers to mind or spirit that includes all kinds of mental activities like consciousness, thinking, feeling etc.  TCM claims that it is ruled by the heart.
