Herbal Paste to Relieve Headaches
This is a topical healing method that applies a herbal paste on specific locations of the body. Fresh herbs can be direct pounded for topical applications, while dry herbs are ground into a powder and mixed with egg white, wine, water or honey for topical applications. Usually, the body locations and the herbs are selected according to the types of headaches. This therapy is often used during acute headache attacks, below are the herbal remedies for different types of headaches.

Sichuan lovage, Dahurian angelica root and ephedra, 2g for each. Grind into a powder and mix with a little fresh ginger or green onion juice, and then paste the mixture on the temples. This is for headaches due to wind-cold. |

Long pepper (3g), Manchurian wildginger (6g) and dried ginger (10g). Grind into a powder and mix with a small amount of rice wine, and then paste the mixture on the location of the headache pain. This is for headaches due to internal weakness and present with coldness. |

Chinese rhubarb (9g), sodium sulfate (9g) and unprocessed gypsum (15g). Grind into a powder and mix with a small amount of vinegar, and then paste the mixture on the forehead. This is for headaches with fever. |

Scorpions (9g), earthworms (9g), gallnet of Chinese sumac (12g), arisaema (15g), pinellia tuber (15g), typonium (15g) and costus root (9g). Grind into a powder and put aside. Every time, take proper amount of the herbal powder, mix with half amount of flour, add in some wine to make the mixture in paste form, and then paste on the temples. This is for headaches due to trigeminal neuralgia. |

Cassia seed (60g) and abalone shell (10g). Grind into a powder and mix with a small amount of concentrated tea, and then paste the mixture on the temples. This is for headaches due to liver yang. |

Aconite root (6g), Kusnezoff monkshood root (6g), peppermint (1g), Manchurian wildginger (1g), unprocessed gypsum (12g) and pepper (1g). Grind into a powder and mix with a small amount of rice wine, and then paste the mixture on the temples. This is for migraine headache. |

20g of medicinal evodia fruits, grind in a powder and put aside. Every night before going to bed, mix 5g of the powder with vinegar, paste it on the soles of the feet, and then cover by gauze or tape, keep the dressing overnight. This is for headaches accompanied by hypertension. |
