Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare inherited disorder that predisposes patients to widespread human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, Chinese medicine has little record for it. The problem often occurs as early as in childhood, and the typical feature of tree-man is mostly found in regions with poor medical resource.

HPV has numerous subtypes, which cause a wide range of viral warts. For common warts, Chinese medicine claims that the infections are usually originated from a combination of internal and external factors. When liver blood fails to nourish the body, and the skin accumulates excess pathogenic dryness and stasis, exogenous evils (HPV) will then take advantage to attack the body surface and induce wart growing. Therefore, oral and external remedies will be prescribed based on the wart types and accompanied body signs. The oral remedies aim to resume the internal harmony, while the external remedies aim to clear the accumulated pathogens on the body surface.
