Hello, I have had insomnia for 5 years. I have tried everything and they aren't working. Could you please help me to see which Chinese herbs will help treat my insomnia in the long run? Also, I read that herbal wines are also good for insomnia, what would be recommended? I have printed out somethings on congee and the footbaths...

Hi. I also have insomnia, but mine has been most of my life mainly because my brain waves genetically go backward, the majority of the family being sleepless. In working with my acupuncturist, Suan Zao Ren Tang is a Chinese herbal mixture that is very helpful providing I am not super stressed out about other things.

This is over the counter & there are many that don't work for me as well as Blue Poppy which is what I use. I have no affiliation with this company out of Boulder, Colorado. It's what works for me. It does not cure insomnia, it gets your body in a relaxed state to 'remind' it that you are getting ready to sleep.

It is good advise to look at where the pattern comes from & sometimes it takes a long time to get through everything. DO NOT take this if you are pregnant or nursing. Good luck.

There is no remedy that can fix insomnia exclusively, especially for chronic cases, you need to check the factors causing you hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep, or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep:

And then modify your sleep habit accordingly; this is essential in the long run.

For the treatment of insomnia, Chinese physicians aim to promote the communication between the body and mind, so as to resume the normal sleep-wake cycle in the brain, that in TCM view is mainly related to internal qi circulation and organ functioning. .

Physicians will have to identify your disharmony pattern based on your sleep difficulty and accompanied body signs, and then select herbs properly.

Chronic insomnia may take months of treatment, just be patient!
